Defence Office.

Defence Office.

This project involved physical security upgrades to an existing 3,000 sqm facility located at Canberra Airport.

The works included extending existing walls to achieve full slab-to-slab separation, replacing doors throughout the tenancy, and constructing new airlocks at all entry points. In addition, the scope incorporated the installation of upgraded security infrastructure, including CCTV, alarms, and an electronic access control system.

The challenge.

NGNU managed the program as both Project Manager and Superintendent, overseeing design finalisation, tender evaluation, and contract administration. A key challenge was the absence of accurate documentation for the existing fitout and base building services. To address this, NGNU led comprehensive investigation phases that informed a staged procurement strategy. This approach enabled the project to progress efficiently while mitigating early uncertainties. Through disciplined project management, phased delivery, and structured stakeholder coordination, NGNU achieved outcomes that exceeded industry benchmarks in safety, quality, and delivery efficiency.

How we delivered success.

NGNU applied disciplined governance and technical oversight to maintain compliance and project momentum. We worked closely with consultants and contractors to manage risks, stage works and verify performance against regulatory requirements. By combining technical acumen with structured reporting and clear communication, NGNU successfully delivered Project Lancaster, securing long-term capability for its occupants.
